Laptops have become quite a commodity as of late for a number of reasons. One such reason is that wi-fi access is spreading like wildfire and computer users want to take advantage of the roaming capabilities of a laptop to have access to their information whenever and wherever they please. Laptops offer mobility where desktop PCs lack. As computers become a part of daily life for more and more individuals it becomes necessary for them to be able to use their computer for multiple tasks while they are away from their desk. A laptop makes sense for many users because of that fact that it is mobile and can be taken to school, work, computer game parties, and on vacations. In order to help computer users get a laptop so that they can enjoy these benefits we have created this guide that should help most people get a good deal on the laptop they want.
What Kind of Laptop Do You Need?
This is probably the most important thing to know when shopping for a laptop. Figure out what you will be using the laptop for and what features you will need. After coming up with a list of needs and features start looking at some of the laptop manufacturers' websites to find out which models meet your list or needs. When choosing which models you might purchase it is very important to remember that laptops are not as easily upgradeable as desktop PCs. Apart from the RAM, Hard Drive, and Optical Drive many of the components of a laptop cannot be upgraded. Knowing this, make sure that you choose a laptop that you will be happy with a year or so down the road.
5. Shop Around
OK, this one is pretty obvious, but in order to get a good deal you need to know how much your desired laptop model sells for in a variety of places. This is how you will know when you are getting a good deal or not when you finally make the purchase.
4. Coupons and Discounts
There are many websites out there that are dedicated to keeping track of special coupons and other discounts that apply to computers and electronics. One of our favorites is Ben's Bargain Center because it is updated frequently and, quite frankly, some pretty awesome deals can be found on their site! On any given day you should be able to find at least one coupon or discount that can be used to purchase a laptop. Watch the site for a week or so to get an idea of the kind of deals and coupons that come about. When you see one that applies to the laptop you want (or a similar model), get your laptop for cheap!
3. Educational Discounts
For those of you who are students you might be able to get a discount on your laptop purchase through your school. At most universities and colleges you can find out about these discounts in the school's bookstore.
2. Employee Discounts
If you work for a company that buys computers on a regular basis you may be able to get the same discount that your company does. Talk to the person in charge of purchasing the company's computers to see if you can get a cheap laptop through the company's purchasing account.
1. School or Business Auctions
Schools and businesses are always purchasing new computers for their staff and employees. As they buy the latest and greatest laptops many of these schools and businesses hold auctions to sell the old equipment. Sometimes they will do an auction but some of the time they will just give each laptop a fixed price. Contact the IT department of the school or business to see how you can purchase some of their old laptops. This is a great way to get a cheap laptop.
